Digital television in blocks of flats

You will be aware that the UK will be switching off analogue TV services and replacing them with digital TV. The first areas will lose their analogue reception in 2008, with the whole of the UK being switched by 2013. Many existing blocks of flats only have old analogue TV distribution systems, and the residents may struggle to be able to receive TV at all once analogue is switched-off. IRS is a completely flexible system that offers each resident the choice to either connect their existing TV equipment to the system to pick up analogue signals (until they are switched off), or to take up digital terrestrial television (e.g. Freeview) Digital Audio Broadcasts (DAB) or digital satellite, now or in the future. This solution means that the developer, local authority or housing association does not have to favour any one particular supplier of TV programmes. The choice is left to the resident. IRS can increase the saleability of new development's and allows housing associations and local authorities to give their tenants more choice and better TV services.

 

Communal Satellite System

Communal satellite systems provide a simple and effective solution. They usually use just use one discrete satellite dish (though this depends on the size of the development) and give each resident the choice to enjoy hundreds of TV channel's interactive and information services, and exciting innovations like Sky+ and Sky HD. It can also give residents better reception and may increase the value of the property, helping to attract new residents. What’s more, you can even opt for a system in which only Satellite signals are distributed by special equipment that doesn’t need a mains power supply of its own and can be put near the dish without the need for extra electrical work.
